Thank you to Mommy Fitness for providing me a membership throughout my pregnancy and postpartum journey
It’s pretty obvious that I’ve LOVED going to my Mommy Fitness classes while pregnant :)
I *try* to make it to three classes a week and do a mix of cardio, strength and yoga. The physical benefits of working out through pregnancy are well known for both mom and baby, but I’ve found 3 unexpected benefits of prenatal fitness (and what REALLY keeps me coming back for more)!
1. Connecting with your baby
With a toddler at home keeping me busy, I love that my prenatal fitness classes carve out time for just me and baby. Both Cardio & Strength and Yoga require me to be in-tune with my body and my little babe. It’s a chance to clear my mind of everything else I have going on and concentrate solely on the new little life joining our family.
2. Meeting other moms-to-be
I LOVE this aspect of prenatal fitness! When I was pregnant with Eleanor, the most I ever saw another pregnant woman was the waiting room of my OB’s office. This time around, I’ve gotten to meet other mamas in every stage of pregnancy. Some are first time moms and some are veterans, but we all are going through many of the same experiences.
We chat about our excitement, vent about our aches and pains, and ask each other for advice. I’ve truly found an invaluable community of women. And maybe we’ll be in class together again this summer for stroller fitness – with babies instead of bumps ;)
Along those same lines, I feel as though I am continually learning more about pregnancy and birth. The instructors take time to teach about important issues all the way from the first trimester, through childbirth, and beyond. We talk about everything from preventing diastasis recti to using the most productive birthing positions. I swear I leave every class saying, “HOW did I not know that?!”
Pregnancy (and especially childbirth) can be a daunting journey. There are a lot of unknowns, questions, and concerns for a mom-to-be. I feel empowered by the knowledge I’ve gained through my time at Mommy Fitness and know that I’ll have a better birth experience because of it!
What are some unexpected benefits you’ve found from exercise (prenatal or not)?
