baby m: week 20

This week marks 2 big milestones for me – I celebrate my 25th birthday today, AND I’m halfway through my pregnancy! Yayyyyyyy! Luckily both are occasions for cake ;)

Aside from a visit from my good friend fatigue, I have been feeling GREAT since I last updated you at week 16. 2nd trimester is definitely a pregnancy high point!

I started my last semester of classes and am loving being back in the schools with the kids again. Since getting pregnant, I definitely look at my students differently and enjoy interacting with them in a whole new way. My belly has rounded out, so the kids can tell I’m pregnant. It’s so funny to see them talk about it to each other and speculate about what’s really going on inside my tummy. I had one student come up to me and say, “Are you pregnant? Someone told me that’s GROSS!” haha

Figuring out how to sleep has been my main obstacle over the past month. I try to sleep on my side because it hurts to sleep on my stomach or back. Unfortunately, my hips and lower back don’t particularly love the pressure side-sleeping either. J has been kind enough to let me experiment with different arrangements in the bed. I’ve tried building a “nest” out of pillows to support my back, hips and tummy, but the 10 pillows I use inevitably end up on the floor or on top of J before the night is over.

Next we tried sleeping sideways in our bed. We have a gigantic king sized bed, so I slept with my back against the headboard. It worked ok, but wasn’t worth the trouble of disrupting J’s sleep. So…. now I’m back to sleeping just like I always have, except I roll from side to side about every 20 minutes. Oh well – only 20 more weeks, right?! ;)

Here are the latest and greatest “bump” pictures:

20 Week Survey

This week, baby is the size of a: banana

Due date: June 24

How far along: 20 weeks

Next appointment: February 6

Gender: We’ll find out at our next appointment!

Total weight gain: 13 pounds (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!)

Exercise: Walking, swimming and home exercise DVDs (pilates, yoga, toning…)

Stretch marks: None

Swelling: None

Maternity clothes: I’m still using a mix of maternity and regular clothes – I’m trying to hold out as long as possible, my regular clothes aren’t getting the job done. It’s been hard to have my large closet now so drastically limited and I don’t feel like I look “nice” in anything I wear – I either feel frumpy or like I’ve been squeezed into a sausage casing. It might be time to invest in a few more maternity clothes :)

Belly button: In, but stretching to the max!

Sleep: My fatigue has set back in during the past week or so, and sleep has been an adventure. It’s difficult to get comfortable, and I wake up 3-5 times a night to go to the bathroom. I think J is suffering right along with me though :(

Food cravings/aversions: None consistently. My sweet tooth is out of control – just in time for Girl Scout cookie season!

Symptoms: Occasional nausea, tension headaches

Movement: Yes! I felt baby move for the first time during week 18. It feels like little “pops” in my lower abdomen

Labor signs: Not for awhile :)

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach

What I’m loving: Creating a dream nursery for Baby M (Pinterest is my best friend)

What I’m looking forward to: Finding out gender at our next appointment! And hanging out with my parents when they visit next weekend!

Best moment this week: Finding out my sister is having a baby GIRL!

Milestones: Feeling baby move, J feeling baby move and hitting the halfway mark of my pregnancy!

Goals: Finish our baby registry (it’s harder than it looks!) and register for birth/breastfeeding classes at the hospital I’m going to deliver at

Thoughts and feelings from dad: Excitement and anticipation for finding out the gender of Baby M on Wednesday. Overall feeling pumped that we’re halfway to meeting our little baby!
