With a tiny one of my own, I was so excited to hear about the latest show added to The Rose Theater’s spring lineup! Balloonacy is a one-man, pantomime show centered on the power of friendship. It is geared to the Rose’s littlest audience and is a great starter show for preschoolers and parents alike!
Balloonacy follows the story of a red balloon and an old man in need of a smile (and perhaps a new friend). Even without a single line of dialogue, viewers come care for both the stodgy old man and the mischievous red balloon! The play is jam-packed with physical comedy that is sure to delight children of all ages.
One of the coolest aspects of the show is the use of audience participation. Children have the opportunity to give ideas and suggestions that determine what happens next! It reminds me of one of my 1st shows as a child when Cinderella’s Prince Charming asked me to try on the lost slipper and I hid under my seat. However, I think I could handle a red balloon by now ;)
Written by Barry Kornhauser and performed by Kevin Ehrhart, Balloonacy is a winner of the American Association of Theatre in Education Distinguished Play Award! Omaha is so lucky to have such quality entertainment brought right to our doorstep!
Balloonacy runs January 18 – February 1, 2014, with performances on Saturdays at 10:30 am, and a second 4:30 pm performance on Saturday, Jan. 18. The show is recommended for families with children ages 2 to 8 and is 45 minutes long.
Tickets are $10. For more information or to make reservations, call the Box Office at (402) 345-4849 or online at www.rosetheater.org.
Do you remember your 1st live performance? I’m not 100% sure, but I think Cinderella may have been mine.
Does Balloonacy remind you of any popular film? I’m thinking Up!
