Yesterday Eleanor and I got a rare afternoon together just the two of us! We used our time wisely and hit up the latest show playing at The Rose Theater. This marks Eleanor’s fourth show at The Rose, and now anytime we start approaching downtown Omaha, she asks if we can “pleeeeeeeeeease go to The Rose!”
To say she loves theater is an understatement… lucky for us Elephant & Piggie We Are in a Play: The Musical was premiering this weekend!
About the Show
Elephant & Piggie We are in a Play brings to life the beloved characters of Mo Williams (who also writes the fantastic pigeon books). The storyline follows best friends Gerald and Piggie as they navigate the ups and downs of friendship and discover the drama of theater!
Between a fancy dancy pool party, an unfortunate ice cream incident, and the best new toy in the world, both Eleanor and I were laughing all throughout the show. The Squirrelles (a trio of harmonizing squirrels) were also a big hit – their never-ending costume changes and funny little songs added so much color to the performance!
In true Eleanor form, her FAVORITE part was Piggie’s fantastic pink tutu. She also loved getting in on the audience participation at the end of the show and thought getting to shout “banana” was hilariously funny. Oh to be two years old ;)
Every time I go to The Rose, I’m reminded why it’s such an amazing experience. Attending live theater opens up new discussions and new worlds of make-believe for weeks to come. Both Eleanor and I come away from the performances inspired – she asks great questions, I retell the funniest jokes, and we both sing songs and get into character to recreate and build upon our favorite scenes.
Believe me, a pink tutu has already been pulled out of our dress-up box by my very own Piggie ;)
