Another great show is opening tonight at The Rose Theater! Omaha families are so lucky to have such high quality, CREATIVE arts right here in the community! This show is even more special as it was written by playwright-in-residence Brian Guehring. Weaving together two classic Hans Christian Andersen tales, The Grocer’s Goblin & The Little Mermaid is sure to delight the whole family!
With a twist to Andersen’s traditional stories, The Little Mermaid is told as a play-within-a-play as the curious goblin discovers the magic found within a good book. The show is anything but predictable with exciting twists with the turn of every page!
The show uniquely incorporates three different types of puppetry and projections. Imaginative sets take audience members from the grocer’s shop, through the pages of a book, and all the way under the sea!
Create at home
One of the coolest aspects (for the teacher in me), is the use of found-object puppetry. Throughout the show, the goblin grants various objects the ability to speak and magic seems to be lurking everywhere. With a little imagination, a spark of creativity, and maybe some glue, your little ones could easily make “puppets” of their own from ordinary objects around the house. Here’s a great resource to get you started!
It’s show time!
