This post is sponsored by the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Association. Our hotel room and King Tut Exhibit tickets were compensated, but travel and all other expenses were paid for on our own.
This weekend I left Eleanor for the very 1st time overnight. I was LONG overdue for a girls weekend, so when Erin came up with the idea for a getaway to Kansas City, I was more than happy to join in the fun! For us Omahans, Kansas City is the perfect destination for a quick trip! It’s an easy drive and there is SO much to do!
When we arrived, we checked in to the Holiday Inn Aladdin Hotel. It was brightly decorated and just what we needed for a girls weekend! The Aladdin staff was super sweet and gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne to get our night started!
The best part was the hotel location – walking distance to Power & Light and a quick 5 minute drive to the rest of our weekend plans. This definitely made creating our itinerary easy!
We decided to spend Friday night out at the Power & Light District. I know this is a popular destination for bachelor/bachelorette parties and other fun occasions, and I can see why – the atmosphere is SO fun! We started at PBR Big Sky and then ventured around the courtyard area. It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL night out and a great way to start the weekend!
Saturday morning started with a quick 3 mile run at the Aladdin’s fitness center along with some weights. I love it when hotel gyms have more than treadmills! I also loved that I was up early enough to have the place to myself :)
First up for our girls day was a trip to Union Station to see the Discovery King Tut exhibit that is currently on loan. We saw this cute
little GIANT guy greeting us when we arrived…
The exhibit was truly amazing. We each had our own audio device to listen to commentary as we moved through the exhibit. There were also several videos we stopped to watch and incredible replicas of the contents of Tut’s tomb. It was really nice to be able to take it all in at our own pace!
Next up was lunch at The Westside Local. It was a farm-to-table restaurant with an AMAZING menu. I seriously had the hardest time deciding what to order, but eventually decided that I couldn’t go wrong with grilled cheese and tomato soup!
We window shopped around the area before heading back towards our hotel for pedicures. Hannah had found a great salon called Polished, and I was SO happy she suggested getting an appointment. Increased running = all around icky feet. Sitting back and getting pampered for an hour was perfect :)
After the salon, we were ready for some shopping at Country Club Plaza. This has always been a Kansas City favorite of mine (surprise, surprise). The Plaza has SO many shopping options and a ton of stores that we don’t have here in Omaha. That being said, it wasn’t long before we were hungry again. After a great deal of debate (hey, there were three headstrong women on this trip), we ended up eating at Brio Tuscan Grille. It was a great choice, and I LOVED my Chicken Pomodoro Classico!
We stopped for breakfast at the cutest diner called Kate’s Kitchen. I ordered the Caramel Nut French Toast, and yes, it was just as delicious as it sounds! After loading up on coffee, we were ready to hit the road!
I had an amazing time with these girls (and thanks Hannah for this group photo)! Yes, I missed Eleanor, but my heart didn’t ache as much as I expected it to. Jeff provided me with lots of text and photo updates, so I always knew what my little sweetie was up to. Plus, every once in awhile, mom needs a weekend away too :)
KC, I’ll be back soon!
