mama’s me time: the selection book review

As a stay at home mom, my days usually revolve around Eleanor – trips to the library and kids’ gym, playing doll house, doing puzzles, and lot and LOTS of reading!

I made a resolution this year to spend more time reading for my own enjoyment. Now, I love reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear just as much as anyone else, but sometimes it’s nice to escape for some “mama’s ME time” with a book that wasn’t written with toddlers in mind ;)

I was so excited when I got the opportunity to review the first installment of Kiera Cass’s Selection Series. When The Selection arrived, I quickly added the book to my queue of “must reads!”

One very fortunate day, with the dishes done, the laundry caught up, and a napping toddler, I finally found myself with the perfect time to settle in with my new book! (Obviously a chocolatey snack was 100% necessary for this “mama’s ME time” to be complete!)

I loved how quickly the author jumped right into the heart of the story. I was immediately hooked and wanted to know more about the main character America and the bizarre postmodern world she was living in. The plot? I think the best way to describe it is The Bachelorette meets Survivor.

The Selection is a romance that follows America Singer as she navigates a competition to win Prince Maxon’s heart and a chance at the throne of Illéa. Of course love is never simple, and there is an epic love triangle and even some danger thrown in for good measure ;)

The book kept me totally captivated and I grew to truly care about each and every character. It was definitely a light read, and I was able to blast through it in just a few nap time reading binges. I was surprised where the book ended, but lucky for me, the story isn’t over yet!

The Selection Series
The Selection series continues with The Elite, The One, and The Heir (releasing May 5). I plan on stocking up on all of these for some good summer reading, and (let’s face it) newborn midnight feedings ;)

Mama or not, if you’re looking for some “me time,” I definitely recommend picking up a good book! Add The Selection series to your summer reading list – I bet you get swept up in the thrilling romance just like me!

Your turn:

What do you like to do for “me time?”
What book is next on your reading list?
