Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m one of those people who has Christmas on the brain the minute the last trick-or-treater has gone home. I love Thanksgiving just as much as the next person, but Christmas has my heart – the decorations, the cookies, the presents, and of course the music!
My mom used to start playing Christmas music with the first snow flurries of the season and my sister and I would sing carols while spinning around our living room in our night gowns. I beat her to the punch this season and had Pandora streaming my Christmas favorites in October (spinning around the living room still happening).
Christmas was also a time for pageants at church. Most of my childhood holidays were spent dressed as a lamb singing in the children’s choir. My sister (the one dressed in burlap) has a gorgeous voice, so she always had a real part – oh well, somebody had to play the farm animals. And at least my costume was cute ;)
Some of these traditions are a thing of the past, but luckily there are many opportunities to enjoy wonderful Christmas music in the community too! Omaha Performing Arts is featuring two fantastic shows this holiday season – Christmas with the King’s Singers and Joyful Noise: A Gospel Celebration Featuring Salem Baptist Church.
The King’s Singers are a British Vocal ensemble composed of six of the best voices in the industry. Their sharp wit and fantastic tunes are sure to make a great show! You can catch them Wednesday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Kiewit Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Reserve you tickets here!
Joyful Noise is a holiday celebration featuring the upbeat sound of the Salem Baptist Church choir. You’ll hear all of your traditional Christmas favorites combined with drama and dance. Don’t miss their performances Sunday, December 7, 4 and 7 p.m., at Kiewit Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Reserve you tickets here!
Jeff and I are excited to kick off the holidays with the King’s Singers the first week of December – a perfect date night to get in the Christmas spirit! Maybe I’ll even be able to convince him to do some Christmas shopping too ;)
