Ahhh – it feels good to be home! I’m currently ignoring a mountain of laundry and typing this post from bed while Eleanor naps. If you saw any of my many Instagram posts from the weekend, it was apparent that we were living it up in Milwaukee! I hadn’t been back to Wisconsin since we moved in April 2013, so it was a really eerie experience being back!
Jeff and I kept commenting to each other about how carefree and easy life had been in Milwaukee – aka, before baby :)
Our trip up was to celebrate the marriage of our good friends Sarah and Mike. We also used it as an excuse to EAT at all of our favorite restaurants we have missed over the past year – so yes, be prepared for lots of food pictures ;)
Eleanor was a trooper during our 8 hour drive – she slept, sang to herself, and looked at books. Seriously, what a doll!
Our first stop in Milwaukee was The Ale House. Jeff spent many nights playing trivia here and it became one of our favorite restaurants to take visitors. We went all out and ordered the ultimate Wisconsin treat – beer and cheese curds!
Friday began with a family run on the Oak Leaf Trail. I was still super sore from hot yoga and stroller fitness (thanks Jess, haha), so it felt good to stretch out a bit.
We then headed over to Mount Mary University where I did my course work for my teaching degree. My professors and academic advisor worked so hard to help me finish my degree after we moved to Omaha, and it was great to see them and thank them for helping me graduate on time. These women are truly top-notch, and I consider myself to lucky to have graduated from such a great institution!
Then it was off to the wedding where we unfortunately didn’t snap many photos. Eleanor did well through most of the ceremony (snacks, snacks, and more snacks), but I eventually had to take her outside after she started yelling “hi” and waving to everybody in the pews behind us.
Between the ceremony and reception we grabbed some Kopps ice cream (see, we truly took every opportunity to eat) while E took a nap. If you ever find yourself in Milwaukee, you HAVE to stop at Kopps! I had the turtle sundae and Jeff got a malt – SO good!
Sarah and Mike’s reception was beautiful and we had a great time catching up with many of Jeff’s GE friends and coworkers. Eleanor made it until about 8:45, and then it was time to get her back to the hotel for bed. What a mama needs and what a baby needs at a wedding reception are slightly different – just give me a Spotted Cow and I’m good to go ;)
Sunday morning was a bit overcast, but we decided to hit up the lakefront once more. We grabbed breakfast at Colectivo (formally Alterra – I can’t believe they changed their name!). I think I ate their potato bacon breakfast burrito (at least) twice a week while pregnant.
We had an awesome time visiting our old stomping grounds and catching up with friends. Milwaukee will always be a special place to us, but it certainly feels good to be home. Now I suppose I should get to that laundry…
