I mentioned on Instagram a few weeks ago that this summer has been a season of growth for Eleanor. In what feels like a blink of an eye, she’s developed an incredible sense of self-confidence and independence. And sure, she’s also somehow managed out outgrow ALL of her sandals in the same amount of time, but that’s not nearly as interesting ;)
I was watching Eleanor scramble to the top of our monkey bar set when it really hit me. “Three months ago Eleanor” would have wanted me within arms reach. She would have been cautiously surveying the situation. Probably watching her sister head up while her own feet were planted firmly on the ground.
But “today Eleanor?” She was yelling, “Hey mom! Watch my new trick!” from the tippy top of the monkey bars.
It’s been amazing to see her tackle new challenges head on and have confidence in her capabilities. Gone are the days of huddling behind my legs or asking to go “uppy” into the safety of my arms. Well, unless a Bergen happens to pop out during Trolls ;)
Maybe it’s her age. Maybe it’s having one year of preschool under her belt. Maybe it’s being tossed into three different summer camps. Maybe it’s the pressure of a little sister on her heels. Regardless, it’s been so fun to watch her thrive!
Up until this point, I’ve kind of felt like my girls have been an extension of me. We “did life” together. But more and more, Eleanor is experiencing the world without me. She makes her own friends, has her own news to report during our nightly “table topics,” and has to rely on herself to get through the ups and downs of the day.
I’m her mom, so of course I believe she can do anything she sets her mind to. But I have to say, it’s nice to see her believe the same thing about herself. Even if it’s something as small as getting to the tippy top of the monkey bars ;)
If you’re looking for a great toy to add to your backyard, we couldn’t recommend buybuy BABY’s Eezy Peezy Monkey Bar Set enough! It’s a favorite for both our girls and makes an incredible energy burner. Oh, and as a total bonus, it’s a breeze to put together!
