Tequila Dinner with Cantina Laredo

Before last Wednesday, I had never even heard of a tequila dinner, but now I’m thinking they need to be built into my schedule! Cantina Laredo at Midtown Crossing hosted a group of Omaha Bloggers for a preview of their upcoming tequila event featuring Don Julio Tequilas! As you can probably imagine, it was AMAZING!

Along with good friends (thanks Hannah for the group photo), great conversation, and a whole lot of laughs, we enjoyed an absolutely delicious four-course meal complete with tequila pairings. The menu choices were outstanding and the drinks were totally unique and an exciting way to try tequila!

We started with chips and salsa (a Mexican restaurant staple) and 3 samples of Don Julio Tequila – the Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo. Each had a slightly different taste depending on how long they had been aged. Fun Don Julio fact: ALL are made with 100% blue agave! Delicious!

Then, it was on to the good stuff! Here’s how I ate (and drank) my way through the evening:

Appetizer: Crab Avocado Chalupas
These were AMAZING! The mango provided some sweetness which paired nicely with the spicy kick of the chipotle aioli. Also, this had to be the most vibrant plate ever! Love it!

Drink #1: Cosmolito
This drink was one of my favorites! With flavors of cranberry and lime, it was super light and refreshing! Just what I needed to kick off the evening :)

Salad: Cranberry Pecan Salad
I’m a sucker for salads, so this may be my favorite course! The greens were tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette along with granny smith apples, toasted pecans and dried cranberries. It was perfectly sweet and tart! (Non-dairy folks had bleu cheese mixed in as well – yum!)

Drink #2: Mango Tequila Mojito
My FAVORITE drink! It’s just what the name describes: mango, mint and tequila! It paired really well with the salad, and I’ll definitely be ordering it during my next night out at Cantina Laredo!

Dinner: Choice of Sea Bass Oscar or Lamb Chops with Pistachio Pipian
I chose the Sea Bass Oscar and it was AMAZING! Those who ordered the Lamb Chops were equally impressed. I don’t like “fishy” fish (picky, yes I know), and this sea bass fit the bill. It was light and buttery and tasted awesome with the lime rice!

Drink #3: Tengo Calor Margarita
You just can’t go wrong with a margarita! This tasted pretty much like a good ‘ole margarita, but the pepper garnish definitely added a little spice!

Dessert: Sorbet Trio
I was SO excited to see sorbet on the menu. This meant my no-dairy diet wouldn’t keep me from enjoying the dessert! The sorbet flavors were AMAZING and a great way to top off our meal!

Drink #4: Hot Summer Never Ending
This drink was super interesting. It consisted of watermelon, cucumber, lime juice, and SURPRISE – jalapeno ( making it the “HOT” in Hot Summer Never Ending)! While it wasn’t my favorite, I was happy to try it and it complemented the sorbet nicely!

Overall, I can’t say enough good things about my evening at Cantina Lardeo! I enjoyed tasting all of the menu selections, and I also loved that it pushed me out of my comfort zone. I definitely will be venturing beyond my standard fajitas and strawberry daiquiri on my next visit!

The best news? You can try it ALL for yourself! Cantina Laredo is hosting this very same Tequila Dinner next month!
