Hello and HAPPY Monday! We had an incredibly busy weekend with many different guests and lots of fun!
Friday started with hosting dinner for a few college friends at our place. Jeff grilled and I whipped up some cheesy potatoes (SO good), and we had a great time catching up with everybody. Eleanor had the BEST time playing with our friends’ son. He’s a few years older than her, but he did awesome playing chase and peek-a-boo with her. Life is pretty sweet for Eleanor now that she’s a walker ;)
Saturday morning was Eleanor’s very 1st swimming lesson. I enrolled her in a 7 week Water Babies course at our YMCA. She LOVES going swimming with us, so we thought starting lessons would be a good next step for her to start learning the basics. Jeff and I decided to trade off who swam with her week to week, and Jeff took the first shift…
Then it was OVER. She was inconsolable. She would scream if Jeff was anywhere near the water with her, so we decided to take a step back, and try to keep the experience from being totally traumatizing. I want her to have a healthy fear of water, but I don’t want to scare her to death either!
I eventually got her to sit on the side of the pool and kick her feet while playing with a ball. I talked to her about the kids in the pool and how much fun they were having, but she wasn’t convinced. Every time I asked her if she wanted to get in, she grabbed me and said “nah nah nah!”
Needless to say, I definitely should have worn my suit because I was SOAKED! Although the lessons didn’t go as planned, Eleanor left with a smile on her face which is the most important part. I did my best to pay attention to what the instructor was doing, so hopefully we can do a little practice on our own before we try it all over again next week!
Immediately after swimming lessons, Hannah and Erin came over for some delicious Three Cooks One Kitchen creating. I’ll just leave you with this photo… (more to come on Thursday)
On Saturday afternoon Eleanor’s play group got together so that all the dads could meet! It was really fun for Jeff to meet all of the women I’ve been talking about for the past 15 months and see Eleanor play with her little friends – adorable!
My parents came out this weekend and my mom and I took advantage of Sunday’s AWESOME weather by doing some MUCH needed outlet shopping at Nebraska Crossing. I hadn’t been there since Christmas last year, so it was really fun to go back and see all of the new stores that have been added.
In true mommy form, EVERYTHING I bought was for Eleanor. She desperately needed leggings for this cooler weather, so I was thrilled when I scored $4 pants at Old Navy! I bought every color/pattern they had her size in. I know they’ll get good use this winter – plus, you can’t argue with that price!
Well, that’s our weekend! This week is going to be full of studying for me (one final licensing exam) while enjoying this cooler fall weather with little E!
How was your weekend?
Have your kids taken swimming lessons? When did they start? Any tips?
