Hi mamas! I can’t believe this is my 1st post of 2017 – it’s almost February for goodness sakes! As for what I’ve been up to this past month, it’s been a lot of the same old mama stuff.
Balancing the status of the house somewhere between “tidy” and “tornado”… keeping Everly’s insatiable appetite under control… and managing all of the extra energy that comes with being stuck indoors on frigidly cold days.
One of my favorite new routines around here is “Coloring Club” with Eleanor. I’m not even sure how we got started, but now most days when Everly goes down for her nap following lunch, Eleanor and I grab markers and paper and sit at the kitchen table to color and chat.
We’ll talk about school or friends or our favorite Trolls characters. Sometimes it’s silly, sometimes it’s eyeopening, and sometimes it’s mundane – but I find it all meaningful. I love cracking the window into her brain, and she loves my truly undivided attention.
Some days we’ll work on collaborative drawings. Other days we’ll write the letter “E” 500 million times, and sometimes we’ll just doodle.
There are no rules and no expectations. We can create something or nothing. We can chit chat or sit in silence. No matter how we spend our “Coloring Club” time, it’s always the closest I feel to Eleanor through the entire day, and I bet she would agree.
I’m excited to start another year here on Makingmine and grateful for all of you who are along for the ride. As for what to expect in 2017, I plan to continue sharing how I meaningfully connect with my girls, the messes we make together, and how I navigate the world of a stay-at-home mom. Thanks for being here! :)
Is there anything you’d like to see more of over the next year?
Let me know!
