Mommy & Me: Halloween Play Date

This post is in partnership with buybuy BABY, a brand I love. All opinions here are my own.

Mommy and Me: Halloween Play Date with a Craft, Snack and Book
This time of year is amazing for so many reasons – colorful leaves, pumpkin patches, crisp air, and Halloween! Holidays are some of the best parts of being a mama. There are so many awesome opportunities to connect with our kiddos.

That’s why I was excited to put together a special morning just for Eleanor and I – a Halloween themed mommy & me play date with a craft, snack and fun read aloud.

Halloween Activity: Pumpkin Spice Playdough Jack-O-Lanterns! Your preschooler can help with every step!

Pumpkin Spice Playdough Jack-O-Lanterns

First up, we did a craft that got right to the heart of the fall season – pumpkin spice! We made our own playdough for the very first time and added some fall flare by mixing in some pumpkin pie spice. Yes, it smells fabulous!

We rolled the dough out on the counter and used Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut out pumpkins, bats and ghosts. Then Eleanor used little craft buttons to decorate them with fun faces. The results were super cute and a great way for a preschooler to make a jack-o-lantern without pumpkin guts and knives ;)

After sufficient playdough decorating, we moved on to snacks! Stonyfield yogurt is a staple in our house, so I decided to use it to make some delicious Halloween treats – yogurt dipped graham cracker monsters!

Spooky Silly Snack for Preschoolers: Yogurt Dipped Graham Cracker MonstersWe spooned two little dishes full of yogurt and Eleanor picked pink and orange food coloring to mix in. Mixing is a specialty of hers ;)

Then we dipped graham cracker halves into the yogurt and covered them with fabulous Halloween sprinkles and candy eyeballs. Spooky, silly, and totally yummy!

We popped ours in the freezer for about 15 minutes to help them set up. I would recommend freezing them on some parchment paper to avoid sticking.

Halloween Read Alouds

We rounded out our mommy and me morning with some of our favorite Halloween reads. Sandra Boynton is a favorite around here, so Eek! Halloween has gotten a lot of use this Fall. The Cheerios Halloween Play Book is always a trusty standby too – who doesn’t love to combine reading and snacking? ;)

Learning Tower Fun

Eleanor was excited to use her new Learning Tower from buybuy BABY. It’s the perfect way to get her right up to the kitchen counter and lend a hand. We’ve been using it for everything from mixing up pancakes in the morning to rinsing dishes in the sink to sorting silverware. She loves it! And I love her company in the kitchen!

Make memories in the kitchen with The Learning Tower
She can climb in and out all on her own and the step level is adjustable as she grows (and as Everly gets big enough to join in the fun). I love that it’s super sturdy and keeps Eleanor safe and secure as she helps out at the counter. I foresee many, many wonderful memories being made on this little tower

Have fun in the kitchen with your preschooler using the Learning Tower
I hope you grab the chance to do something special with your little one this Halloween! Let me know if you try anything from our mommy & me play date!
