My Reset and Repack Diaper Bag Routine

Little kids come with a surprising amount of “stuff” (because you quickly learn that you can never leave home without diapers and snacks) and somehow us moms are always the ones left hauling it all around ;)

And the thing about diaper bags is that they get heavy… fast! Somehow my bag becomes a black hole for EVERYTHING my kids touch while we’re out and about. With all that random junk, my diaper bag is bursting at the seams, and I still somehow can’t find a diaper.

My Reset and Repack Diaper Bag Routine

After years of hauling around all of the random trinkets my girls get from the dentist office/hair dresser/librarian, I’m DONE! In an effort to free up my hands for more important things (like snuggles… or an ice cream cone haha), I’ve instated a “Reset and Repack” routine when I get home to ensure that I’m fully stocked with the essentials, and ONLY the essentials.

My Reset and Repack Diaper Bag Routine: How to get out of the house with only the essentials

Step 1: Take Everything Out

And I mean EVERYTHING… you don’t want to forget about a shirt that needs stain treated or a rogue diaper. Yuck ;)

Step 2: Find a “Home” for Each Item

In my case that means wrappers go in the trash, dirty clothes go in the hamper, trinkets get added to the toy bins, and restaurant crayons get dumped in the art supplies.

Step 3: Take an Inventory of your Essentials

I think every mom has that magic number of diapers she carts around. Mine is 6 – I have no idea why. As Everly has gotten more active, we’ve really loved these Huggies Little Movers Plus (available exclusively at Costco).

I also make sure that I have plenty of wipes, sunscreen, Evie’s hat, a change of clothes, and an emergency snack for both the girls.

Step 4: Pack Up

I repack my bag and hang in up in the laundry room so it’s easy to grab as we head out the door on another adventure!

Finding Your Essentials

What I “need” varies by season and the age of the girls, and right now things are at the bare minimum. It’s so easy to stock up on necessities at Costco, and I love that they carry reliable brands like Huggies Little Movers Plus. They’re super absorbent (hence the Plus), and the value is amazing.

For any Costco obsessed mamas like me, there’s a great diaper deal coming up next month:

    • Little Snugglers Plus (Sizes 1 & 2) – $37.49, $31.49 after $6 discount and Free shipping (offer valid 9/1 to 9/25) And exciting news! Starting in August Little Snugglers Plus will also be available in size Newborn starting – $29.99 available in select warehouses and online at Costco.com
    • Little Movers Plus (Size 3, 4, 5, & 6) – $42.99, $36.99 after $6 discount and Free shipping (offer valid 9/1 to 9/25)

What would you add to my diaper bag essentials? What’s the most random thing in your diaper bag right now? ;)
