Check out this Mommy & Me Play Date perfect for some St. Patrick’s Day fun!
I think one of the biggest perks of being a mom is getting to do creative, engaging activities with my girls, but sometimes I let the responsibilities of motherhood overshadow the FUN of this stage in life.
I decided to start being intentional about fully embracing the time I have at home with my little ones – to step back, slow down, get messy, and create something special together!
Why a mommy & me PLAY date?
I wanted something that wasn’t serious. Something I couldn’t mess up. Something that didn’t have a hidden agenda (aka – turning off the teacher part of my brain). But most of all I wanted to connect with my girls at their level and fully embrace the JOY of motherhood.
Each month I’ll be sharing with you a “Mommy & Me Play Date” created and tested by Eleanor and I! It will include a book, craft, snack, and a playlist of kid-friendly tunes to jam out to as you make a fun afternoon of memories!
These activities are meant to be achievable and affordable – simple steps using things you have around the house and nothing requiring a fine arts degree ;)
Do it one-on-one, ask dad to join in the fun, or invite some friends over! Now let’s get started…
St. Patrick’s Day Play Date
The story centers around Jamie, the laziest man in Ireland, who figures out how to never work another day in his life. Oh, and potatoes. There are LOTS of potatoes ;)
We did a read aloud and then flipped through the pages looking at the pictures and retelling the story. Snag it from Amazon or check it out at your local library!
Now crank up the music – it’s art time!
Or, if you’re like Eleanor and I, crank up the music and dance a St. Patrick’s Day jig ;)
Eleanor enjoyed alternating between stamping with the potatoes and smearing them all over the page. Her end results looked a lot like finger painting, but a whole lot more fun! And her art now proudly doubles as St. Patrick’s Day decor in the play room!
St. Patrick’s Day Snack Time for the Wee Ones!
As you know, painting can build up quite an appetite, so you’ll be ready for these adorable (and tasty) Lucky Clover Leaves.
These Lucky Clover Leaves take three ingredients:
- Almond bark
And three steps:
- Melt the almond bark according to the instructions on the packaging
- Spoon onto the top of the pretzels
- Top with a GREEN M&M
While I was melting the almond bark and spooning it onto the pretzels, Eleanor handled the task of sorting out all of the GREEN M&M’s for some St. Patrick’s Day flair. She was extremely methodical and didn’t miss a single one!
By the time she finished sorting, the almond bark had cooled enough that she could place the M&M’s on top.
Eleanor gave the Lucky Clover Leaves 2 thumbs up! And judging from the fact that ZERO lasted overnight, the whole family agreed ;)
We both had a blast working on these St. Patrick’s Day activities side-by-side. She was so proud of her potato art and getting to make her very own snack!
I hope you’ll give this Mommy & Me Play Date a try! Adapt where it makes sense for you and your kiddo and be sure to tag me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram if you share snippets of your afternoon together :)
And please SHARE with a mama who you think would enjoy this post!
